Where it stands

The Alanya line and fruity oils

In Antalya the olive grows on the narrow strip between the Taurus Mountains and the sea. Quality olive oil production concentrates especially around Alanya, and the area's oils are known for their light, fruity profile.

The province is the western end of the Mediterranean region, from which the line runs east through Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay. Recorded here are Memecik — the Aegean's principal oil variety — along with Edremit (Ayvalık), Çelebi and Tavşanyüreği.

Memecik's presence in Antalya shows how far the variety has spread beyond the Aegean: it is recorded in nine provinces, from Aydın to Kastamonu.
