How Zeytin.NET content is put together, where the data comes from, and what happens when an error is found.
Zeytin.NET is an independent publication that gathers data on olives and olive oil in one place, with sources attached. This page explains how the content is put together and what you can rely on.
Who writes it
The site is run by a small editorial desk and articles are published under the organisation's name. You won't find a personal byline on a page, because these texts aren't individual opinion pieces — they are source-based compilations.
What that means in practice: every figure you read on a page has a source, and that source is named on the page itself.
Where the data comes from
Our main sources:
- TurkStat (TÜİK) — production, area and tree-count statistics
- International Olive Council (IOC) — world production and the variety catalogue
- Commodity exchanges and Marmarabirlik — current purchase and sale prices
- Academic publications — pomological measurements per variety (fruit weight, oil content, chilling requirement)
- Eurostat / HICP — for adjusting price series for inflation
Where sources contradict each other we don't hide the contradiction: both measurements are given, along with an explanation of where the difference comes from. The same variety can show a different fruit weight in two studies — that depends on the grove and the year the measurement was taken.
What we don't do
- We don't recommend brands. No "best brand" lists.
- We don't publish paid content. No article is written in favour of a product.
- We don't make health claims. Nutrition information here is general; consult your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
- We don't publish machine-written text as-is. Tools may be used, but every published page is checked by a person.
Keeping it current
Price and production data are pulled from their sources regularly, and each page carries a last-updated date. We don't present old data as new — if a figure hasn't been updated, the period it belongs to is stated on the page.
If you spot an error
A number may be wrong, a source missing, or a piece of information out of date. Tell us and we'll correct it — and we won't hide the correction. Write to us from the contact page.
