Where it stands

A coast sharing two varieties

Zonguldak is one of the Black Sea provinces where olives are grown, and it sits where two variety belts intersect: it shares Samsun Yerli with Samsun and Sinop, and Pastos with Trabzon.

Production is confined to sheltered coastal strips with a Mediterranean microclimate and is largely for household consumption.

Zonguldak is one of those provinces that shows how wide, and how thin, the olive's distribution across Turkey is: geographic presence and economic weight are not the same thing.
