Where it stands

The mild valleys of the Botan

Siirt is one of the Southeastern provinces where olives are found. They occupy the mild valleys opened by the Botan stream and the tributaries of the Tigris, where the continental climate softens.

Output is too small to form a separate line in national statistics. The region's general constraint applies here too: high summer temperatures and insufficient rainfall limit the sector's development.

Siirt does, however, belong to the same genotype basin as neighbouring Şırnak and Mardin — a basin holding olives known by local names such as Halhalı, Kejik and Belluti that appear in no national catalogue.
