The belt of the Samsun Yerli variety
Together with Sinop and Zonguldak, Samsun lies in the belt where the Samsun Yerli variety is grown — one of the most clearly defined instances of the olive's presence on the Black Sea coast.
Output is very small and limited to sheltered pockets closed to northerly winds with a Mediterranean microclimate. The character of production is table olives; oil production is all but absent.
The Black Sea region accounts for around 0.2% of Turkey's olive output — the region describes the olive's geographic limit, not its commercial scale.
