Where it stands

The inland edge of the Aegean

Denizli marks the inland limit of olive growing in the Aegean. The groves that begin on the Aegean coast run east at varying density and end here — the inland extension of the Büyük Menderes basin.

The province's main variety is Memecik, sharing a varietal basin with Aydın, Muğla and İzmir. As the climate turns continental away from the coast, the olive occupies more limited ground than in the coastal provinces.

Denizli's share of Aegean output is small, but it matters for marking the olive's geographic limit: the inland boundary line in the answer to where olives grow in Turkey runs through here.
