Where it stands
- ⚠ This province does not appear separately in the UZZK 2025-26 national crop estimate — its output is not economically weighted. It is nonetheless recorded in the literature as an olive-growing province of Karadeniz.
Valley olives in the inner Black Sea
Tokat is one of the inner Black Sea provinces where olives appear. Despite its distance from the coast, the milder stretches of the Kelkit and Yeşilırmak valleys leave a limited opening for olives.
Output is statistically negligible. The olive presence here is not commercial but a local possibility created by valley microclimate.
Tokat shows that what governs the olive's distribution in Turkey is not provincial boundaries but valley and altitude — the same logic holds in Karaman's Ermenek district.
