Olives in a hazelnut province
Ordu's agricultural identity is bound to hazelnuts; olives sit at the margin of production here, in sheltered ground near the coast.
Black Sea olive growing — in Artvin, Sinop, Trabzon, Kastamonu, Ordu, Zonguldak, Samsun, Amasya and Giresun — is confined to narrow coastal strips and takes the form of table olives for household use. Ordu sits in the middle of that list.
