Where it stands

A new olive area, state-supported

Isparta's olive sector is not old but being built. Under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's Crop Production Development Project, the provincial directorate runs an Olive Production Development Project distributing saplings to growers.

The work is concentrated in the Sütçüler district: 7,000 olive saplings were distributed to 81 farmers across 175 decares in the villages of Çandır, Yeşilyurt, Şehyler and Hacıahmetler.

Sütçüler is Isparta's warmest district and the closest to the Mediterranean; the province's olive potential lies in this southern belt rather than in the continental lake country. In newly planted groves, planting density and establishment decisions are the long-run determinant of yield.
