The thin line of the western Black Sea
Bartın is one of the western Black Sea provinces where olives are found. It produces no volume visible in production statistics; the olive here is a matter of a few trees at the edge of a garden.
This fits the region's general rule: along the Black Sea the olive is pressed into coastal stretches and valleys sheltered from northerly winds with a Mediterranean microclimate, and production serves household consumption.
Bartın's neighbour Zonguldak carries the Samsun Yerli and Pastos varieties on the same coastal line; Bartın is that line's continuation.
